Remodeling of a house from the 16th century

Dating back to the 16th century, the Maison de la Dîme in Antagnes is listed as a Canton Vaud heritage. 

The challenge of this project was to make the house habitable and comfortable as the original building had no inner connections and extremely low ceilings, while maintaining a maximum of the original structure. To bring more light into the home as well as to create a better connection with the garden and surrounding forest, a single opening was cut in the back of the house where the kitchen is located. A double story was also created in the kitchen allowing upper floors to benefit from this light and to give more dimension. The tile roof was replaced and insulated, to make the attic habitable. The existing wooden roof structure, most of the wooden facades on the interior walls, and large stone wood stove could be restored.
